Greetings from Salem, Massachusetts. I am Shauna, the maker and founder of Sincerely Salem! I’m an 11th-generation Salem resident who grew up spellbound by the layers of history that shape the city my family has called home for generations, from its whispered legends and infamous trials to the quieter stories of resilience, resistance, and renewal. I’ve always believed in honoring the full truth of Salem, acknowledging both the wonder and the wounds woven into our past.
Sincerely Salem was born in June 2020, during a time of deep reflection and reimagining. It’s more than a small business; it’s a love letter to this city that I hope residents and visitors alike carry with them.
I respectfully acknowledge that Salem is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Naumkeag people of the Pawtucket confederation, who stewarded this land long before colonial settlement.
I’m also a single mom and a PhD student. My research and work center on partnering with marginalized communities to promote equity and well-being through play-based learning, believing deeply in children’s creativity as a force for healing and transformation.
Sincerely Salem’s creations are exclusively and only available in-store at The Black Veil, located at 304 Essex Street and 136 Boston Street in Salem, Massachusetts. I also offer custom, large-scale orders of our beloved signature teacup candles for events, weddings, and other special occasions.
